If you bring along an unlocked GSM cell phone (3 G or 4 G), you can buy a SIM card for $15 and then buy prepaid minutes. You may also purchase a cell phone from BTC (Cable and Wireless) for around $50. Of course, whatever phone service you have should roam with BTC but the roaming charges may be steep. Local calls from a land line are free.   About the Bus System One can easily reach downtown Nassau by bus (locally called jitneys). From the Cable Beach Sheraton, walk to the nearby traffic circle and pick up an eastbound #10 jitney. The fare is $1.25, which is generally paid upon exit of the bus. Most downtown destinations are within walking distance from the endpoint of the #10 route, right across from the Nassau Straw Market. To get your driver to stop elsewhere along the route, shout “Bus stop!” Note that jitneys across the island quit working at 7 pm. Back to top
