Dear SCL Members,
We hope that you've all been keeping well during this global pandemic. Our Executive recently had a meeting to devise a COVID-19 response to the general membership and a plan of action as we move forward with our plans for SCL T&T 2020. We are aware that many of you either have a fast approaching deadline to apply for conference funding, while others are in a situation where their institutions are no longer authorizing international travel. Against this, the Executive wishes to advise you of the following:
1. As of today, 23 March, the conference is still scheduled for 3-8 August at the UWI, St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad & Tobago.
2. There are several options that the Executive has considered for the format of the conference if the situation does not improve, or worsens:
a. Virtual conference: This would mean an entirely virtual conference with a possibility of parallel sessions streamed live to members and the public. All accepted proposals would be invited to participate in this format.
b. Virtual workshops: This would involve a series of themed workshops, streamed live to the membership and public, without parallel sessions.
c. Publication conference: This option would invite all accepted proposals to be submitted for consideration in either (a) a large conference proceedings volume or (b) a series of themed volumes. No physical or virtual presentations would be done in this format.
3. Proposals which have already been accepted via the system-generated notice will receive their official letter via email in the upcoming weeks. If you have not received notification of acceptance as yet, your proposal is still under review.
At this stage, communication between the SCL Executive and membership might get backlogged as members of the Executive attempt to move our courses to an online/virtual format at our various institutions and complete requirements for this current semester. We will respond as soon as we can. In the meantime, we thank you for your continued support of the society and urge that you take the necessary precautions to remain safe through this situation.
All the best and we will continue to update you as things develop.
